Leading claims consulting firm, dedicated to providing exceptional industry expertise is seeking a seasoned professional to their team as a Senior Commercial Manager. This role offers the opportunity to lead projects autonomously and manage a team, while also assuming business development responsibilities to expand into new markets in Toronto ON. This is a hybrid position – a mix of office and virtual depending on residence and experience level. Salary range is $140,000-$190,000. Outpost Recruitment is excited to work with our client on this full-time permanent role.
As a Senior Commercial Manager, you will lead commercial initiatives, foster client relationships, and drive business growth in new markets. You will leverage your extensive experience in the construction sector to identify opportunities for claims and change orders, while ensuring the highest standards of quality and client satisfaction.
Responsibilities of Senior Commercial Manager
- Ensure the company brand is consistently represented in alignment with our branding requirements and company ethos during client interactions.
- Lead commercial initiatives and oversee project-based challenges in the construction sector.
- Lead procurement processes from initiation to completion, actively engaging as a valuable partner.
- Administer subcontractors, monitoring performance and adherence to commercial terms.
- Analyze project records and identify opportunities for claims and change orders.
- Review progress applications and project drawings with the ability to develop accurate cost estimates.
- Lead the development of project reports, claims and change orders.
- Actively participate in client meetings, site visits, and engage with site teams.

- Proficiency in seamlessly slotting into new teams, developing strong collaboration both internally and externally with clients.
- Demonstrated positive attitude and a proactive approach to problem-solving, emphasizing solutions over challenges.
- Commitment and experience in providing a client-centric approach, consistently upholding companies high standards and ensuring client satisfaction.
- Lead and manage projects autonomously as well as demonstrating proven ability to oversee a team.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities of Senior Commercial Manager
- Deep understanding of the execution of contracts, cost control, risk management and contractual compliance.
- Knowledge and varying levels of skill with all Microsoft products. (Word, Excel, Project, SharePoint, Teams)
- Expert numerical competence and spreadsheet aptitude.
- Knowledge of other construction related software products such as Procore, Primavera P6.
- Must have ability to initiate and complete tasks independently without constant supervision.
- Efficiently organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines, ensuring productivity and timely completion of assignments.
- Have strong written and verbal communication skills to stay connected with team members and convey progress effectively.
Experience/Qualifications
- Must have a MRICS, CIOB, PEng or higher.
- Degree in Construction, Quantity Surveying, or similar.
- Minimum 15 years of experience in Contract Administration/Quantity Surveying.
- Demonstrated success in business development and expanding business network.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Guaranteed Salary plus Overtime – guaranteed work week of 40 hours a week, if more hours are worked paid for those additional hours at your hourly rate.
- Vacation – 4 weeks per year

- Yearly Wellness Allowance – recover up to $1,500 (before tax) each year to reimburse the employee for selected health and wellbeing benefits.
- Company Bonus – yearly enrollment into a discretionary company bonus, based upon individual performance and the company’s revenue targets.
