Mechanical & Electrical Manager, Healthcare / ICI Buildings

General contractor seeking an experienced Mechanical and Electrical manager for the construction phase of a healthcare project in Dawson Creek, BC. Reporting to the Mechanical & Electrical Director, the M&E Specialist Role is responsible for augmenting the Project Team by utilizing their experience & proficiency in M&E building systems to provide overall construction management.  The ideal candidate will have experience on projects up to $100m, will be a self-starter and able to work on their own initiative.

This position will work on site in Dawson’s Creek, BC.  This will be on a rotational shift with LOA and travel pay available if working out of town. Salary range is $118,000 – $165,000. Outpost Recruitment is excited to work with our client on this full-time permanent role.

Ideal person would be a M&E Specialist or M&E manager with some healthcare project exposure.  Base location can really be any city in Alberta or BC with an airport, but ideally Vancouver, Calgary, or Edmonton. This is a permanent position, put to 1.5 year son this project and then reassigned to a new project upon completion. 

• Rotation of 14 on and 7 off
• LOA – $3,500 per month to cover accommodation / meals
• Project Uplift – 20% in addition to base salary

Responsibilities of Mechanical & Electrical Manager

• Lead the planning and delivery of all M&E components of a healthcare project and own the M&E portion of the project schedule
• Manage and mentor a team of M&E specialists, coordinators and field staff
• Oversee M&E activities onsite and make sure work is coordinated, on schedule and resolved quickly when issues arise
• Lead design and constructability reviews for mechanical and electrical systems, and sign off on recommendations
• Negotiate, award and manage mechanical and electrical subcontracts
• Own the M&E budget, including cost forecasting, change management, billing and invoicing
• Act as the main point of contact for Engineers, Consultants, Subcontractors, the Design-Build Team and the Health Authority on M&E matters
• Make sure M&E work complies with output specifications, codes and contract requirements
• Approve M&E subcontractor submittals, ITPs, execution plans and QA/QC programs
• Set up and lead regular M&E meetings, and report progress, risks and recommendations to senior project leadership
• Assess changes issued by the Design-Build Team or the Health Authority for cost, schedule, feasibility and compliance impacts
• Identify and manage M&E risks across the project lifecycle
• Lead the commissioning, turnover and close-out strategy for all M&E systems, working with the Commissioning Agent, M&E Subcontractors, Engineers and shadow consultants
• Drive continuous improvement in M&E processes and share lessons learned across projects

Requirements of Mechanical & Electrical Manager

• +15 years of relevant work experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership or management role
• Engineering Degree or Trade Certification; P.Eng. or PMP would be an asset
• Proven experience managing M&E scopes on large, complex healthcare projects, ideally under Design-Build or P3 delivery models
• Strong knowledge of building systems, construction methods and commissioning
• Experience in a General Contracting role on complex projects
• Experience working with or for Mechanical & Electrical Companies
• Track record of managing budgets, subcontracts and multidisciplinary teams
• Strong leadership, negotiation and stakeholder management skills
